Energy 92.7 San Francisco

A blog dedicated to the music played on KNGY, Energy 92.7, the radio station that kept the San Francisco Bay Area dancing from October 2004-September 2009.

September 10, 2009

Misguided Revolution

Energy 92.7 was purchased a few months back, and today the new owner let the entire airstaff go and flipped formats to Mainstream Top 40 as KREV, "The Revolution." I listened for about 15 minutes and thought the song selection was atrocious and the imaging was terrible. This blog will remain as a testament to the "little station that could," documenting the nearly five years Energy graced San Francisco's airwaves. I will also continue to update with my own personal charts and national dance airplay charts. Let's hope that sooner rather than later, dance will return to San Francisco radio. Until then, R.I.P. Energy (2004-2009).

This is certainly a sad day. My favorite station of all time has been killed. And in its place, another insipid Top40 station (did we really need another one of those?). I could not be more disappointed. My radio is rendered useless now, except for when I want some news (NPR).

I can't even express how sad I am!! This was the BEST station ever and I agree, we do't need another top 40 station! And a sucky one at that!! Has anyone listened to it?? It is CRAP! I am so sad- what am I going to dance to? We need to revolt, seriously. Someone needs to put another dance station back on the radio...and fast! What is going to happen to fernando & Greg?? RIP NRG I am going to miss you! PLs don't stop this blog! Its the only place now i can find incredible music!

I was really confused this morning when I was driving in and you guys were playing dogshit.

I worked at the Rupture office on the same floor, sorry we didn't get a chance to get to know you guys a little better.

Good luck in wherever you all end up!

Wow! What utter $hit they are playing now that NRG 92.7 is gone. I encourage all sponsors to withdraw their ads immediately as no one with any taste (in music or otherwise) is going to continue listening to this Top 40 crap. This is truly the day the music died.

Thank you Energy for all the good times driving in SF with the perfect soundtrack. You are so missed. Revcrap is off my radio preset. :(

I hopped in the shower yesterday morning after flipping on the radio. Got in the shower and had to endure three hideous songs on 92.7 before I could get out and shut off the radio. UGH. I HATE THE NEW FORMAT. This station will quickly fail. I am now listening to Movin 99.7. That was always my second choice. Also, there is Pride Radio on KIOI 101.3-HD2. Gotta have an HD radio tuner, though. I have one in my car, but not in my house.

I relate to the aforementioned disappointment for my 'fashion music' station has failed me. Where's the fun in my drive now? Unfortunate that someone was so small minded as to replace something unique with more of the same. Adds no value to the airwaves and leaves a hole in the community.

I am SO sad the my favorite radio station is gone. I LOVED listing to Fernando and Greg in the morning. This is the ONLY radio station I've ever listened to other than public radio. Stupid new owners. I hope that the Energy DJs and staff will grace the airwaves again soon.

This really sucks! Energy was the best station in Nor Cal-best music, great DJ's and awesome morning show! The new owners were crazy to cancel and their new music is terrible!

Farewell Energy-you will be missed.

Wow what are Fernando and Greg gonna do??? They were the most entertaining radio station ever.

Long Live Fernando and Greg.

Hater! Whoever changed the format is an energy zapper. Someone's got money to buy the station but has no taste. To listen to Energy music is to have the keep-going attitude that this world needs in this challenging times. The new owner is grey, uptight and needs to get some sass. Top 40...loser!

What station, whether satellite, online, or wherever has the closest play list to Energy 92.7?

This may sound extreme but I am devastated at the abrupt ending of Energy! This was the only station I listened to among the crap that circulates the SF airwaves. This new station blows and I miss Fernando and Greg!

RIP 27.9, I am gonna miss you every tme I am driving to the city, I am really upset about this

This is a total shock. Didn't NRG recently get voted as the #1 dance station in the USA?

I can understand a format change to the all enticing Top 40 for its wider demo and the potential sales, but for the life of me, I can't understand why they would let two talented on-air personalities like Greg and Fernando go.

Greg and Fernando, you will be missed. Please let us know where you end up and we will faithfully follow.

It's sad to see my favorite dance station go away because of some homophobic owner. I know he owned couple of station in Palm Springs, where I used to live and they do suck and plus he's a bible belt. San Francisco, we cannot have a homophobe run our city in any such way. This is time to start boycotting KREV and its bible belt homophobic owner. In the meantime there is a gay station for us but in the HD format called PrideradioSF. I'll be buying the HD receiver device for my car and beging listening that station until some good dance station will arrive in the mainstream radio.

So sad to see such an SF gem. Glad to see you're keeping this up and running! go strong!

I cannot believe this! Suddenly there was no Energy! I listened multiple times a day and relied on the dance music and witty commentary. I am so sad that we now have another generic pop station like 99.7 - ICK!

Wow, super bad news - I'm in the UK and used to listen online. Although the playlist was fairly repetetive, every tune was a keeper - totally awesome music.

The new format on 92.7 is garbage.

For several years now, learning to use the PC version of mixing digitally, I have been divorced from listening to radion stations and gathered all my 'crate' tracks from mp3blogs and charts. I got my 'groove' together and it 'glued' when I heard two years age, XM 81 BPM. Added a few touches from the charts and my podomatic.com website excels with KUDOS for other DJs.

I determinedly kept a audiophile blog for the past 4 years too. When BPM went off to Sirius and I could not find anyone from their office to release and update BPM's Charts online, a friend recommended to explore Energy. I found your charts just several weeks ago and must be grateful after reading this SWAN SONG posting, you will be continuing to influence my direction with your own charts and observations and collecting the TOP OF THE DANCE.

THANKS man!

Well...there certainly was no better way to start my workday than listening to Fernando and Greg. They are funny, witty, and up to date on current political issues. Who in the hell would not appreciate such talent? I have been a faithful listener of Energy since it began--and if what Diversity001 stated in this blog is true, the new owner should be ashamed of himself/herself...and I am not gay. I do believe there was a Jesus that once walked this earth, but I do not believe him to be my savior. However, if the new owner indeed believes in Jesus as a savior, then he/she should read to learn a bit more about the man—he would never have judged anyone, yet would have held his arms open and embraced the lives and kindness of others, which I found Fernando and Greg to do!

This so awful, I tuned in and was like what is goin on and then I hear Rev, as an instructor I almost counted on this station. DJ Ajaxx has given me some awesome music for my classes. This whole deal needs to be reversed, we need no more Top 40 crap, we need the beat, the energy not some main stream, yawn music, get with it corporate idiots. Some day someone will come along and fire all yall no matter how well ur doin and not care... Karma will get you!!
