Inspired Shift Back to Basics

New music alert: After winning First Spin 4 nights in a row, the effervescent "Back to Basics" by Shape:UK (also known as Shapeshifters across the pond) is now being played regularly on Energy 92.7. This marks a return to form for the station, whose recent adds haven't particularly thrilled me. But in this follow-up to the massive hit, "Lola's Theme," Energy has a guaranteed winner that should quickly work its way up to power rotation. Also joining the lineup this week is Ian van Dahl's "Inspiration." This song doesn't quite match the caliber of previous hits and Energy staples, "Castles in the Sky" and "Will I," but it makes a decent addition nonetheless.

Congratulations to Kelly Osbourne, who muscles her way into Energy's power rotation this week and holds down Billboard's brand new number one dance airplay track in the United States with "One Word."

Anna bids adieu: If you visit this page regularly, you probably know that "Call Me" by Anna Vissi is one of my favorite songs of the year, having spent an amazing five weeks at the top of my own personal chart. However, a mercy killing of the Trevor Simpson mix played by Energy has been long overdue. I consider it one of the station's biggest mistakes that they were unable to capitalize on the massive success this #1 club and #2 dance airplay hit has expereinced nearly everywhere it has been played. I encourage everyone who has only heard Simpson's version to check out any other remix of "Call Me," starting with the original or Valentin mixes, and see if they aren't vastly pleased with the results.
